Deltech Monomers specializes in the production of high-performance aromatic monomers, including para-methylstyrene (PMS), vinyltoluene (VT), tertiary-butylstyrene (TBS), divinylbenzene (DVB), and other specialty monomers. These serve as the fundamental building blocks for various chemical and polymer products. Deltech's products offer significant advantages in appealing and demanding end markets such as coatings, adhesives and sealants, ion exchange/water purification, oil and gas, composites, and construction.

Deltech Monomers

Located in Troy, OH, Deltech Polymers focuses on producing specialized crystal polystyrene (PS) and styrene methyl methacrylate (SMMA) products. These products find wide-ranging applications in extrusion, injection molding, compounding, and blending processes. Extrusion grades are particularly used in the building and construction industry, specifically for insulation products, while molding grades are well-suited for durable houseware and lifestyle goods. Deltech also offers various grades tailored for color concentrates, specialty compounds, and custom-formulated materials.

StanChem Resins, situated in East Berlin, CT, holds a prominent position in the industry and is acknowledged for its expertise in developing and producing high-performance emulsion polymers and resins. Deltech Vinyl Toluene (VT) is a mixture of methylstyrene isomers, with approximately 55% meta and 45% para isomer distribution. This reactive monomer readily polymerizes to form a high-clarity, colorless polymer with excellent electrical and physical properties. In many applications, VT demonstrates superior properties compared to styrene monomer.


Deltech Monomers Vinyl Toluene (VT)

Deltech para-tertiary-butyl Styrene (TBS) is a versatile substitute for styrene monomer, offering improved properties and fewer handling restrictions. It exhibits low volume shrinkage during polymerization, a high affinity for oils, high solvent receptivity, and improved water resistance in copolymers. From an environmental perspective, TBS has a low vapor pressure and high flash point, reducing emissions from storage or handling and minimizing the flammability hazard. Moreover, its low volatility decreases monomer fumes in the workplace, and it is not classified as a listed air toxic, thus avoiding many environmental use requirements.

StanChem Polymers SC 6016 is self-crosslinking acrylic emulsion when the polymer is cured at temperatures of 300 – 350 °F, depending on the time and temperature of cure. Added acid catalyst can increase the rate of cure.

Deltamer™ DIEB - HP (High Purity Di-Ethylbenzene) is a versatile product utilized in various chemical processes. It is used in the oxidation process to produce diEB hydroperoxide, which acts as a free radical initiator or as an intermediate in the preparation of ethylphenols, commonly used as additives in lubricating oils, rubbers, and resins. Additionally, Deltamer™ DIEB - HP finds application in heat transfer fluids and is produced through alkylation.


Deltech Monomers DIEB - HP (High Purity Di-Ethylbenzene)

Deltech para-Methylstyrene (PMS) is recommended for evaluation as a replacement for vinyltoluene and styrene monomers. It shares similar chemical properties and polymerization behavior with both vinyltoluene and styrene. When used as a partial or complete replacement for styrene monomer in unsaturated polyester resin applications, polymerized resin products exhibit lower vapor pressure at any temperature and a higher flashpoint. Additionally, PMS offers advantages such as lower shrinkage during molding, improved thermal properties, and greater tensile strength in glass-filled applications.

It is considered stable, with no risk of hazardous polymerization. Due to its solid nature, it is expected to have low mobility in the soil. It is also classified as non-biodegradable, indicating that it does not readily break down in the environment.

StanChem Polymers SC 5186 is general-purpose polyvinyl acetate. It deposits a clear, tough film, which exhibits excellent resistance to heat and light. It provides good adhesion to cellulose. Films of SC 5186 exhibit good blocking resistance.

StanChem Polymers SC 6445 is an acrylic copolymer emulsion that exhibits excellent UV resistance, good solvent resistance, good pigment binding and SC 6445 being carboxylated, can be cross-linked with melamine.

StanChem Polymers SC 6477 is a highly efficient, alkali-swellable acrylic emulsion that is recommended for thickening synthetic emulsions. SC 6477 can be incorporated directly into a binder system. Thickening begins with the addition of ammonia, sodium hydroxide or an amine to raise the pH to 7.0-8.0 for maximum thickening.

StanChem Polymers SC 6044 is a high solids, medium hand, all acrylic and self-crosslinking emulsion. SC 6044 provides outstanding durability to washing and dry cleaning.

StanChem Polymers SC 5218 is a surfactant stabilized vinyl/acrylic copolymer emulsion for paints and coatings. SC 5218 provides formulators with superior scrub resistance, durability and flexibility.

StanChem Polymers SC 5019 is a HEC stabilized, vinyl acetate emulsion with very high molecular weight and a highly branched structure. SC 5019 exhibits good water resistance and high electrolyte tolerance. SC 5019 is recommended for use in the production of paper laminating adhesives, joint cement and textile sizing.
